What made you want to join the cannabis industry and what was your first industry job?

I’ve indulged in cannabis for a good chunk of my life. I’ve always wanted to know if there was more to cannabis than just smoking to get high, and to finally get that chance I started my journey at Planet 13 as a budtender.

Have your views/thoughts about cannabis changed since becoming a budtender?

Totally! Before becoming a budtender I was familiar with the varieties of cannabis such as wax, edibles, and flower. But after the transition into budtending I have a deeper understanding about cannabinoids, terpenes and even the growing process.

What are some misconceptions about budtending?

I feel the biggest misconception is….. budtenders can get rich by selling cannabis. Now I’m not saying we don’t get paid well but people think we get commission off of what we sell which is a common misconception that I see going around. We enjoy our job enough to give you a great experience but we do not make commission!

What’s the most satisfying part of budtending?

The most satisfying part to me about budtending is definitely catering to the patients needs. You can’t just listen to reply, you need to listen to understand! When a returning patient comes back and loves my recommendations I know I’ve done my job correctly.

What kind of challenges have you faced that you didn’t expect when you first joined the cannabis industry?

When I first started budtending, it was knowing my terpenes and extraction processes. In this industry you HAVE to know the ins and outs of what you’re talking about. Now that I’m confident in my work, It’s easier for me to elaborate on such things.

What’s your favorite topic you like to educate patients on?

Terpenes are definitely my favorite topic to educate patients on! Now that cannabis has expanded around the world I feel every patient needs to understand terpenes.

How do you stay up to date and informed on new products?

I try and broaden my horizons by continually going to vendor trainings, taste tests, and even social media helps me out. Staying updated on products is very important in this industry and it also gives you a great edge on what will be introduced next.

What do you think budtenders need more of to make the job easier/better?

Well, since budtenders are the frontline they definitely need to try all products that customers will be interested in. Knowing the product by experiencing it, rather than just reading the packages, can help personalize and tailor towards the patients needs.

Do you see yourself having a long career in the cannabis industry? If so, what are your long term goals?

As young as this industry is I’m definitely in it for the long run. One of my long term goals are to be one of the faces for cannabis influencers in Las Vegas.

What are some of the things you enjoy outside of work?

Being a Vegas native I get asked all the time, and my go to answer is eat! Vegas, being  multicultural, I can try foods from all over the world and not have to travel and spend thousands to do so.

How does cannabis complement your healthy lifestyle?

With all these new ways to consume cannabis, it’s been nothing but helpful with my fitness journey. Instead of eating all those artificial flavors and toxic ingredients found in pre/post workout that haven’t even been clinically backed, I could just smoke a joint or take a dab and get the same outcome but only healthier.

You’ve recently been making motivational videos on social media, what inspired you to create motivational content?

What inspired me most was all my friends telling me that I should do it. Having a good circle definitely pushed me out my comfort zone to start getting my name/face out there. A million mile race starts only if you take the first step, so that’s what I did!

What’s your favorite way to consume?

Honestly I always try carts, edibles, and wax but rolling joints tends to be the go to way for me.

Do you have any favorite cannabis brands?

I’ve been loving Kush Company so far, they specialize in OG strains which bring me back to the original taste of cannabis. As well as Grower Circle – they always show love to their plants.

Do you prefer a high THC content or a really good terpene profile?

I prefer a great terpene profile, even though THC does play a role in flower,  I love the fact that I can personalize my high with the knowledge of terpenes.

What you been smoking on?

I’ve been smoking on that Ice Berg Slim by Kush Co!
