The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael. The Beatles had George, John, Paul and Ringo. Kira, Martha, Mersadies and Taylor are the Fab Four behind the curtain of Remedy’s hand trimmed premium flower.
The practice of hand trimming preserves the integrity of the marijuana flower. Every plant that Remedy grows is harvested, cured and hand trimmed by these four ladies. As part of the cultivation crew they monitor and track every single plant carefully, adhering to Remedy’s cultivation and hand trimming procedures. While larger operations manage a team of a dozen or more trimmers, these four handle business and get the job done right. This tight knit crew of women at Remedy has streamlined the harvest and trimming process into a finely tuned, well oiled premium cannabis machine.
Remedy was kind enough to open their doors and give us an interview with their Fab Four.
Vegas Cannabis Magazine: What are your official job titles with Remedy?
Martha Pulido: I am Trim Lead, AKA Master Trimmer, AKA The Fastest Trimmer.
Taylor Turner: Fastest trimmer? Psssh, when she wants to be.
Mersadies Graves: If she’s a Master Trimmer, then I’m definitely a Master Trimmer
Kira Piggot: If we’re making up titles, I’m the Renaissance Woman of the cultivation facility.
Taylor Turner: Oooh… Then I’m Trim Mom!
The back and forth between these ladies was so quick. Like they were all riffing off each other in a n improv act. With each jab at each other, their voices got louder and louder until the door opened. Our interview was interrupted when Pete Westbrook, Harvest Manager entered the room.
Pete Westbrook: Ladies, ladies, ladies… Settle down. You are all Master Trimmers.
Westbrook smiled and shut the door. I guess the walls are kind of thin at Remedy. Our interview continued.
VCM: How do you feel about how the cannabis industry perceives and treats women?
MP: I feel it is very sexualized. Most of the time when you see women in cannabis, they hire hot women, take photos of them smoking. Using sex to sell. There are a lot of women in this industry like us too. Working hard. We have the knowledge and skills. Just like the men do.
KP: I think the cannabis industry embraces women, but is also very lenient. There can be limitations if you do not take the time to rise up in this industry yourself.
MG: I think it’s very sexist that women are only expected to be in the store front because of their looks. When it comes to the cultivation side, a lot of people think that women can’t handle the work load. As a result… how many of the cultivators in this industry are women? But look at us four. We actually get to harvest. We ladies get to do something that has always been described as more of a man’s job. Being a woman doesn’t mean we are incapable of doing heavy duty shit. We’ll take down an entire room in a day. Us four. I would like there to be more opportunities for women in the industry.
TT: It is biased but I think this industry is going to evolve and progress. Right now I’m gaining my work experience. It wasn’t always this way. I got my start when I worked in Humboldt. I’m here now getting my education, so I can be a figure in this industry. Women will slowly gain progress. I had to prove myself. We will change this industry.
VCM: What is the most cannabis you trimmed in a single day?
MP: The most I’ve trimmed was 5 lbs.
MG: I’ve trimmed almost 5 lbs. I was literally .25 away.
TT: I’ve trimmed 4.7 lbs.
KP: There was a 6 lbs. day I’ve been trying to revisit.
The other three ladies each raised an eyebrow and looked over to Kira. Kira smiled back.
VCM: What are your favorite strains that Remedy grows? And which are your favorite to consume?
MP: Our Blue Dream and the Deadhead OG grow amazing. Both easy to trim. Electric Ginger is my favorite to trim. Super hairy. An easier trim. I use vape carts and I like joints. Island Sweet Skunk is my shiz. That’s the bee’s knees to sweeten my teeth, if you know what I mean. I also really like the Clementine, the Tangieness, and I love the highs. Sativas that don’t make you anxious. Those are my two bubba boos.
TT: I really like the Clementine, Electric Ginger, Pre 98 Bubba Kush & our 707 Headband. To consume I like the Clementine, ideally as our Clemon Kush Live Resin vape cartridge. I’m not really a flower girl I tend to vape and use concentrates more.
KP: Durban Poison and Deadhead OG would be the favorites from our line. My favorite way of consuming is via a big ass, 3d printed bong, filled with ice on two levels. I always light a candle and use the match to relight my bowls through the night.
MG: The Pre 98 Bubba because I love Indicas. Also the Deadhead OG and Blue Dream. Those three are my favorites to smoke and trim. I’m more of a dabber than flower smoker. Our Channel 2 Shatter actually was the first thing I tried when I first started working in the industry at Cannacopia. I tried Remedy and TerpX, before I even worked here. It’s cool to be a part of it now.
VCM: What’s it like working with an all woman trimming crew?
MP: They make me feel empowered. We connect on a different level. Us four working together have a great bond. We’ve gotten close and I really enjoy the women I work with. We are all women working hard as fuck. It takes a special kind of girl to do all the trimming, hanging and harvesting.
KP: Working with an all lady team is pretty nice. We can all relate to each other.
MG: It’s interesting… I usually don’t get along with girls that often, because I can be quite of a tom boy. I have a whole group of friends at work. We’re very unfiltered when we’re together.
TT: To be honest, I didn’t know how I was going to feel but now I actually enjoy coming to work. I can talk their ears off. Fuck with them and it’s all love. Right guys?
Silence for a beat.
Then they all erupt with laughter.
